Commemoration of the Faithful Departed

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

It is the tradition of the Church to set aside the month of November for a special commemoration for those who have died.  In November, with the opening feasts of All Saints (November 1st) and the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (“All Souls”) (November 2nd), the Church calls us to pray for our departed loved ones and for those who mourn.  The Communion of Saints is a great blessing and helps to ease the grief of the death of a loved one.

As we pray for our deceased loved ones in November, we invite you to send us the names of your loved ones. We will remember all in our prayer throughout the month of November.  The names will remain on our altar throughout the month.  Feel free to email them to me or to send them through the mail.

We also invite you to join us for Evening Prayer on Wednesday, November 2nd, as we pray our Vespers of the Dead.  This is a time to pray for the faithful departed and to affirm our faith in the Resurrection of Jesus.  Vespers will begin at 5:00 pm in the Marian Chapel.

May God’s peace and comfort fill your hearts and may the knowledge of the Resurrection give you hope and joy.

Sincerely in Christ,

Sister Christine Ereiser, OSB
